DESIGN APPROACH
Fragmented volumes responding to terrain with restraint
Set within the contoured terrain of Adgaon, the residence is conceived as a study in restraint, allowing the land’s natural undulations to remain undisturbed.
Rather than a singular mass, the design fragments into two linear volumes positioned at varying heights, hovering above the contours to minimise excavation while lending a quiet visual lightness to its monolithic form.
MATERIAL PALETTE
Monolithic clarity softened through calibrated porosity
A singular material palette unifies the volumes, its muted surface allowing proportion and silhouette to lead.
Slatted frameworks and perforated screens introduce porosity, filtering light and casting shifting shadows across the monolithic form.
ARCHITECTURAL EXPRESSION
A sculptural pause within linear continuity
A glass-encased staircase interrupts the otherwise horizontal mass, emerging as a vertical insertion within the composition.
This transparent volume reveals movement within, introducing a dynamic counterpoint that animates and offsets the linear architectural language.
SPATIAL PLANNING
Voids, thresholds, and fluid transitions
The planning is driven by calibrated voids and solids, with a pool carved into one volume, reinforcing subtraction within the mass while introducing reflection and passive cooling.
Transitional decks, corridors, and semi-open zones connect volumes, blurring inside and outside through layered thresholds responsive to climate and setting.
INTERIOR CONTINUITY
Warm minimalism shaped through material cohesion
The interiors extend the architectural language through textured walls, monolithic flooring, and a restrained material palette that creates a calm, cohesive base.
Floor-to-ceiling shelving and large wall murals introduce a sense of scale, while private courtyards in each bedroom bring in light, landscape, and spatial depth.
